Proposed Tools and Research Areas

Candidate areas for community research before the revival selects its first implementation milestone.

Nothing on this page is a release commitment. Proposals require maintainer review, user research, licensing review, and a realistic maintenance plan.

1. Potential areas

  • •Interoperability and diagnostics for open SIP and RTP systems.
  • •Migration and configuration validation tools for legacy deployments.
  • •Modern documentation and examples for secure real-time communications.
  • •Historical source portability and reproducible-build research.
  • •Small, composable libraries or command-line tools with clear maintenance boundaries.

2. Selection criteria

  • •A real and documented user problem.
  • •A scope maintainable by the available community.
  • •Clear differentiation from healthy existing projects.
  • •Open standards and compatible licensing.
  • •Testable security and interoperability requirements.

3. Proposal process

The first proposal process will be published with the public repository. Proposals should include the user problem, intended users, existing alternatives, technical risks, maintenance needs, and a small first milestone.
