Getting Started

What newcomers can do while the revival is in its foundation and scope-definition stage.

1. Understand the current status

GNU Telephony currently provides a restored historical archive and an independently coordinated revival initiative. There is not yet a supported modern software release to install.

2. Explore the technical history

  • •Read the GNU Telephony overview.
  • •Review SIP Witch, ZRTP, ccRTP, Bayonne, and supporting library documentation.
  • •Use the timeline to understand how the components evolved.
  • •Treat archived operational instructions as historical material.

3. Participate

  • •Review the roadmap and proposed research areas.
  • •Contribute verified historical material.
  • •Share a modern communications problem that the project could realistically solve.
  • •Contact TwoSquares about technical or community participation.
